Taking Easter to the Community

For Easter this year, we decided to try something different.  So many of our RiverKidz invite their friends to church for Easter, but few of those invited actually come.  Kids can’t drive themselves to church, after all!  The idea of Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunts would allow the kids to invite their friends from their neighborhoods for games, an egg hunt, and a devotional in the comfort of their own backyard.  Our goal was for five families to host a hunt.  They would be provided with everything they needed to host the event:  invitations to the hunt and to Easter church services, plastic eggs, candy, games, crafts, and instructions.  Six families in six different areas committed to hosting the event!  Over 75 kids (and their parents) who might not have heard about the love and sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ indeed heard the Good News in a fun and simple way.  We are praying for God to water and nurture the many seeds that were planted at these Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunts.  Sharing Jesus doesn’t have to be difficult:  a little time, creativity, some plastic eggs, and 75 hearts ready to hear and receive.

A church we are connected to in South Africa does not just see themselves as receiving, when it comes to mission, they are doing! Pastor Peter sent us these pictures of his church on mission in the villages outside of the town they live in. Enjoy, this is the Great Commission at work!

As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” John 20:21
